PhillyWebWomen
(PWW) is a discussion list for Philadelphia-area women that
work on the Internet.
Articles,
networking, job postings, event notices, news, and discussion
about: design, marketing, tech tools, communication issues,
workplace, business development, IT career issues, and the
Philly tech community.
History. Founded in April 2000 on YahooGroups, we had
a hiatus in early 2004 when I tired to move away from Yahoo
but had a software failure. So we are back to Yahoo, which
is loaded with ads, but free and has robust subscription
management.
Privacy.
I will not share this subscriber list with anyone. If you
post to the list, your email address will be revealed to
the other subscribers. The list archives are available to
subscribers. You should read the Privacy Policy at YahooGroups.com.
List
Mechanics. The volume of messages is moderate. Usually
only a few each day. We suggest making a folder in your
email program and filtering the list messages into it be
be read at your leisure.
You
may promote yourself, to a tasteful extent. We will be happy
to applaud if you have done something fabulous. But it's
not a place to post ads for affiliate programs or commercial
websites, unless you are asking for site critiques. If you
send us advertisements for products or websites, I'll delete
you.
When
you do post, your messages will appear as plain text. If
you want your signature to appear, make it text. And no
attachments will come through at all... so if you forward
something, cut and paste it. No backgrounds, logos, fonts,
or photos will come through.

List
Character. Most subscribers are involved in the Philly-regional
tech industry in some way. We talk about web development,
technical topics, women's business development (mostly in
the tech sector), and the Philly tech community. Many of
us have been on the list for a long time... people tend
not to leave once they subscribe. The list has grown slowly
over 3+ years.
Not
everyone works in hardcore tech... or works in the same
employment environment or knows the same stuff. There tend
to be a lot of designer/developer types here... but also
writers, marketers, merchants, students, managers, artists,
and musicians. The word "technology" is widely
defined, and people sometimes move through different career
changes.
It
is not a general chat list about daily life. We are not
all uber-feminists, nor people with one political viewpoint.
Be prepared to tolerate a variety of opinions. I like to
avoid partisan politics and religious subjects that would
divide us.
Our
lives as women in the Philly tech community... that is the
central theme of most posts.
We
know each other a bit, some of us in person. There is plenty
of room for new people! You might read for a bit and then
introduce yourself. Or start replying to messages that interest
you. Many people never post... just read... and that's just
dandy, too. No participation requirement here.
Not
everyone here is a woman. We have male subscribers and they
post. It's not a no-man's-list. We try not to male bash.
We do sometimes talk about differences in communication
styles between men and women in the workplace and the marketplace.
I
post more than anyone. I suppose the list is a bit blog-like
for me. I try not to get too personal... most folks are
here to network, get casual tech support, and find event
notices or job listings. But you will just have to suffer
through my discussion of caffeine withdrawal or my posting
about my goals for the coming quarter... because in the
end, it's my list.
